Florida professor (and his mustache) arrested for taking upskirt videos of students

The Smoking Gun

A college professor who used a camera pen to secretly film under the clothing of two students explained to police that he was attempting to gather evidence that one of the women “was not wearing undergarments,” which he thought was “inappropriate,” according to a police report. That explanation, however, did not keep cops from arresting Don Samuelson, 65, on a pair of felony video voyeurism counts. Samuelson, who teaches at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine, allegedly victimized the two students on four separate occasions this year.

One of the victims noticed it going on and after that police found a USB pen camera in his office:

After being read his Miranda rights, Samuelson (seen at left) claimed that he was “attempting to gather proof” that one of the women “was not wearing undergarments” in class. When asked about the occasions during which he “directed the camera pen at students’ breasts,” Samuelson “acknowledged that this activity was ‘inappropriate.’” Samuelson has been on administrative leave since his Gainesville office was searched by police. If convicted of the voyeurism charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison on each felony count.

Another report indicated that Samuelson has been on administrative leave since September 6 and would likely be terminated (in fact it appears his web page on the College of Veterinary Medicine no longer exists.) One student talked to the Independent Florida Alligator:

Second-year veterinary student Casey Siljestrom said she was shocked by the allegations. She took histology — a class required of all first-year vet students — with Samuelson last year. “We always just thought he was a really nice guy, a little bit boring but never threatening in any way,” the 23-year-old said. “I never felt uncomfortable around him.”

The Alligator also reported on other faculty arrested in the recent past:

UF professors arrested in the past include an anthropology professor who was jailed in 2009 after he admitted to trying to trade cocaine for sexual favors from another man, according to Alligator archives. Later that year, a department of pathology professor was arrested on charges of sexual assault, stalking, unarmed burglary and burglary with assault or battery.

With great faculty role models like this is it any wonder how some of the former students playing professional sports have had their own brushes with the law?
