Betsy Rothstein, the trouble-starting scourge of the Washington media, has resigned as editor of the news and gossip site Fishbowl DC.
“Whether raging waters or smooth sailing, my 3 years at FishbowlDC have been the perfect storm. Onto new adventures. Stay tuned…,” she tweeted on Thursday.
Rothstein told POLITICO she had “nothing but gratitude for mediabistro,” but would not comment on future plans: “I need to go out to the desert and meditate for a while and see what I should do next,” she said.
With Rothstein’s departure, the Mediabistro site is left without a leader and effectively without a staff. Contributor Peter Ogburn also left the site on Thursday; Eddie Scarry, a writer for The Blaze, left months earlier. Chris Ariens, the vice president of Mediabistro, declined to comment.
Best wishes to Betsy whatever she ends up doing. FishbowlDC included me in a few stories during her tenure. Most notably, FBDC covered my story on Joe Biden screwing up Charleston traffic during Friday rush hour of Easter weekend. Additionally, FBDC covered a story on a party in the office of Rep. Andy Harris that included underage drinking and alcohol purchases by his chief of staff.
