There had been rumors for a few weeks that former Baltimore County Republican Central Committee Chairman Tony Campbell might become Ron George’s running mate. George and Campbell both denied it on Twitter last week and I had heard about Campbell denials prior to that and also this week.
While Campbell has announced that he is running as a Republican for Baltimore County Executive, he has not filed for that office with the State Board of Elections as of close of business today. I’ve heard some GOP activists refer to Campbell as a hard worker, but he has also been involved in controversy in the past.
Ron George hasn’t filed for Governor yet. I also hear that Charles Lollar’s campaign has apparently said they have a running mate now, but no names have been mentioned. Lollar’s campaign has told similar tales before and never delivered. Lollar also has yet to file for the Governor’s race.
With Campbell not actually having filed yet, I would say it’s still a distinct possibility he is in the mix to be Ron George’s running mate.
