Tugboat strikes rail bridge over Susquehanna; AMTRAK and MARC delayed

From a MARC email sent at 10:17 p.m. EDT:

Due to a tugboat strike of the Susquehanna River Bridge, all traffic is being held south of Perryville until the bridge is inspected. Delays of some significance may be experienced as a result of this hold. More information will follow as it is made available.

The bridge is between Havre de Grace and Perryville, Maryland.

Amtrak has made no tweets about the situation yet on @Amtrak or on @AmtrakNEC. Nothing is on the Amtrak.com website yet as well.

After midnight, the Sun caught up with this story and reported:

The U.S. Coast Guard notified Amtrak around 10 p.m. Wednesday that a tug boat struck the bridge, and trains were delayed as a precaution, according to Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz.

Four Amtrak trains and one MARC train were delayed as an engineer inspected the bridge and the single track atop the structure, Schulz said.
