Report: NYPD gunman is Baltimore gang member who shot relative there

The story out of New York about a man who murdered two NYPD officers and then shot himself has a Baltimore angle. No records for Ismaaiyl Brinsley (with that spelling) show up in the Maryland Judiciary Case Search online.

WBAL TV reports:

According to multiple reports in New York and WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team sources in Baltimore, the gunman was also wanted in connection with a shooting Saturday morning in the Baltimore area.

New York One reports that he had shot someone in Baltimore and had come to New York City with the sole intention of killing NYPD officers. The New York Daily News reports that details about the Baltimore shooting were “scarce” but that a family member of Brinsley’s said the NYPD shooter had shot her in the stomach.

NY Daily News

Two NYPD cops were executed Saturday after a gang member from Baltimore drove to the city to kill police officers after wounding his girlfriend, sources told the Daily News.

The shooter, identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, boasted about wanting to kill cops in the hours before he ambushed the officers outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 3 p.m. Saturday.

“I’m Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” Brinsley wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of a silver handgun and a series of hashtags referencing the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

Brinsley made good on his promise, firing several rounds into the patrol car parked near Myrtle and Tompkins Aves., witnesses said.

Justin Fenton of The Baltimore Sun has details on the shooting in Baltimore:

A 29-year-old woman was shot in the stomach just before 6 a.m. in Owings Mills, Baltimore County police said earlier in the day.

The shooting occurred inside of an apartment in the Greenwich Place complex in the 10000 block of Mill Run Circle, near the parking lot of the Owings Mills Mall.

Police said the woman was shot in the abdomen by a male whom she knew. The victim was transported in serious condition to an area hospital for treatment.

A New York Police spokeswoman would not confirm if detectives were looking at a link between the shootings, and a Baltimore County Police spokeswoman also said she was unable to confirm the information. She declined to identify the suspect police were searching for in the Owings Mills incident.

Brinsley may have been a member of the Black Guerilla Family:

The cold-blooded cop-hater who gunned down two police officers in Brooklyn on Saturday is suspected of being a member of a notorious prison gang that has declared open season on the NYPD.

Detectives were headed to Baltimore on Saturday night to probe Ismaaiyl Brinsley’s ties to the Black Guerrilla Family, sources told the Daily News.

One source said Baltimore police were already investigating Brinsley’s connection to the gang, which started in California’s San Quentin Prison in the 1960s by Black Panther member George Jackson.

“BGF has been talking about getting back at cops for Eric Garner and Ferguson,” a source told The News, citing intelligence intercepted in Baltimore area prisons.
